Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who needs a Variance Application?

A: A Variance Application is used for Owners and Users wishing to install a vessel not meeting the statutes or codes in its entirety.  Click here for application.

Q: Why haven’t I received my boiler operating certificate?

A: In order to receive an operating certificate, the fee must be paid in full and any requirements noted during the inspection must be brought into compliance.

Q: What are my duties as an owner, installer, contractor when installing a new boiler?

A: Colorado statutes require notification to the state boiler office of a newly-installed or relocated boiler before the boiler is placed in service.  This notification may be made by the boiler owner, user or installer.  Ultimately, however, it is the boiler owner who will be held accountable if proper notification is not made.  [See §§9-4-106(1),(2) & §9-4-108(1) CRS; CCR 1101-5 §§1-10 & 1-16(a)]

Q: Why does an insurance inspector inspect my boiler?

A: If you maintain insurance on your boiler, the insurance inspector who is commissioned by this state will perform the required annual inspection after the initial installation inspection which is required to be performed by a state inspector. If the insurance is canceled, a state inspector will inspect your boiler.

Q: How can I get a duplicate billing statement or operating certificate?

A: Any duplicate invoice or certificate can be generated from our office and sent to you at any time.  Please call (303) 318-8484 for a duplicate billing or certificate.

Q: What are procedures regarding welded repairs and construction requirements of boilers and\or pressure vessels?

A: The repairs must be performed by a boiler technician who has an "R" Stamp issued by the National Board of Boiler Inspectors.
